Cranbrook - Hockey School Program Info

Tuition for the 5 day Hockey School is $340 plus tax.

Ages 5-16 (5 year olds must have at least one year of Minor Hockey experience to participate)

  Enrollment includes:

  • -2.5 hours of on-ice time each day

  • -1 hour dry land activities + video

  • -Chalk talk with Professional and Collegiate Hockey Players

  • -Hockey game on Friday

ON-ICE PROGRAM

"THE BASICS"  

Power Skating
-proper forward and backward skating techniques

 Passing/Shooting (why?/when?)
-leading the pass (forehand/backhand)
-receiving the pass (forehand/backhand)
-mechanics of the wrist shot (puck position/proper footing/weight transfer/shoulder turn and follow through)
-mechanics of the slap-shot (puck position/proper footing/weight transfer/shoulder turn and follow through)
-backhand shooting (we're not just shoveling snow!)

Eliminating the Man - proper technique in taking the opponent out of the play

Protecting the Puck - the art of working the boards while controlling the puck

Playing the Angles/Challenge the Shooter - goaltending basics with the view of playing 6'

Offensive/Defensive Systems - "Corner/Dot/Slot" the easy way to learn proper position.

The Importance of Communication - do your talking on the ice, not JUST in the dressing room

1. Attitude (What is good vs. bad?)
-effects on you and your team

2. Zones (What are they/How many?)
-offensive/defensive/neutral

3. The 4 "W's" What/Where/When and Why?
-What's my position
-Where am I supposed to be?
-When am I supposed to be there?
-Why am I supposed to be there? (The most important "W")
